About Brent

Brent BlackwellBrent is currently an Assistant Professor of English and Jewish Studies at Ball State University in Muncie, IN. He received his Ph.D. in Theory and Cultural Studies from Purdue University in May 2004. His current passion is ballroom dancing, his favorites being the Hustle, Foxtrot, Bolero, and Salsa. He and his wife take lessons at the Arthur Murray Dance Studios in Fishers, IN.

He and his wife, Audrey, were married in 1996, but have been dating since 1992, when he took her to her senior prom. Audrey is the sister of one of his best friends, Bryan Crable, currently head of the department of Communication at Villanova University in Philadelphia, PA. Brent and Audrey are DINK's for the time being, with no children. Audrey is the Corporate Documentation Manager for Orchard Software in Carmel, IN.

During his undergraduate years, Brent was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity, and played bass in a couple of college bands. Pete Bogg was his first band, with friends Bryan Crable, John Carr, Brian Donahue, and Dane Carter. They were an alternative group who were college favorites at Purdue. Together, they produced five albums before everyone graduated. After Pete Bogg, he joined a band with old friends from high school: Shayne Hintz, Curt Timm, and Don Murphy, called Sam the Butcher. STB was a metal/punk band who played at many bars at Purdue as well.

In addition to music, Brent has been a long-time role-player, which he began playing with his friends in the late 1970's. Over the years, he has played nearly every role-playing game produced, many of which do not even exist any more. While he was getting his Ph.D., he worked in a game store called The Game Preserve where he met a whole new group of friends. Today, he runs two groups in his own fantasy world, and plays in four other games, two of which are played on-line.

During his summer breaks, Brent dons the mantle of "Manny" (short for male nanny). For several years now, he has watched their friends', Debbie and Tom's, special needs daughter: Claire, who has Rett Syndrome. Please visit Bundlings.com for more information about them and this genetic disorder, marked by severe autism.
